At the southern most end of Namaqualand, the only town in the region known as the Knersvlakte, our quaint town offers various activities. The pristine natural beauty of mountains to one side and semi-desert plains surrounding it, the coastal plains half an hour away and extreme biodiversity.

Namaqualand flowers
Every springtime the semi-desert erupts in an array of color unmatched by any other in the world. Sparked by only a few drops of rain, from Cape-Town to Springbok will entertain you from mid-July to the end of September. In the middle of Namaqualands floral kingdom and at the foot of the Bokkeveld, the bulb capital of the world, make Namaqua Lodge your home for a while.

MTB & Hiking Trails
For the more adventurous, there are extensive mountain biking trails and wonderful walking/hiking opportunities in the mountains and surrounding areas. Some farms in the area offers bike hires. 30-50km in any direction nature will invite you in and ask you to stay a while longer in-between lovely sandstone rock formations, fynbos and coastal plains.

Rock art, Fauna & Flora

The Cederberg mountains, Matzikama mountains and the Bokkeveld not only have rock art around every corner but the fauna and flora makes this one of the most beautiful, biodiverse and not overly developed area in South-Africa. Nurseries
Vanrhynsdorp boast two succulent nurseries in town. The first is housed in an iconic landmark, the old jail, built in 1895. The Knectsvlakte Nursery located in the main street offers both indigenous and unique succulents in their collection.
The second is the largest quiver tree nursery in the world. The Quiver tree Nursery or Kokerboom Kwekery offers a beautiful shopping experience but also a rich history of Jan Smuts, Buys Wiese & his family as well as a quaint coffee shop.
